The Hanwha Eagles have added veteran coaching staff to support head coach Kim Kyung-moon.
The Hanwha Eagles officially announced on Friday that they have hired former NC Dinos coach Yang Seung-kwan as head coach and former women’s national baseball team manager Yang Sang-moon as pitching coach. Former head coach Jung Kyung-bae will serve as hitting coach and former pitching coach Park Seung-min will serve as pitching coordinator.
The appointment of Kim Kyung-moon comes as Hanwha aims to accelerate its program ahead of the second half of the 2024 season.
Yang Seung-kwan was a founding member of the Sammi Superstars in 1982. He played for the Sammi, Cheongbo Pintos, and Pacific Dolphins before retiring from the LG Twins.
Since then, he has played for LG, the Pacific-Hyundai Unicorns, the SK Wyverns, the Nexen Heroes, and the NC Dinos. After serving as the head coach of Inha University, he took over as the head coach of the Paju Challengers in 2020 and has been leading the Korean Independent League for five years.
He and Kim Kyung-moon worked together at NC for six years from 2013-2018 as manager, assistant manager, and hitting coach.
It’s their first reunion in eight years.
Yang Sang-moon is a pitching coach who played for the Lotte Giants and Cheongbo-Pacific as a player, and later worked as a pitching coach, manager, and general manager for Lotte and LG. He later served as a baseball commentator and head coach of the women’s national baseball team.
He was called back to the pitching staff by Kim Kyung-moon, 고스톱 게임 his immediate senior at Busan Dongseongjoong-Korea University. This is the first time the two have worked together in the professional ranks.
The Hanwha club stated the purpose of this coaching staff change as “a way to renew the atmosphere for the second half of the season.” It is literally a full-scale launch and mustering of the “Kim Kyung-moon Division.
Hanwha, which sank to ninth place in the first half of the season, will be able to show a different face in the second half of the season. It is hoped that the experience and chemistry of the three senior coaches, whose average age is 64.7 years old, will be strong.
