The agent, who was again charged with giving back money to a professional soccer club official in exchange for joining, was eventually arrested.
On the 26th, the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for agent Choi Mo (36), which was reclaimed for fear of destroying evidence. Choi is accused of giving a total of 100 million won to professional club officials, including former Ansan Greeners FC head coach Lim Jong-heon and former Yonsei University soccer team head coach Shin Mo, along with requests to join the team.
Choi is accused of giving 40 million won to Thai Navy FC coach Lim Jong-heon in exchange for selecting two Korean players in 2018-2019. In addition, he is also accused of giving 60 million won to former Yonsei University coach Shin Mo, asking three players to join a professional club from 2017 to 2018. Choi is suspected of giving money and other valuables to professional soccer team coaches and managers in addition to Lim and Shin, along with requests to join players.
Mr. Choi, whose arrest warrant had been previously dismissed, attended the second pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) on the same day and denied the charge of giving back money. Choi answered “no” to the reporter’s question, “Do you admit to giving back money to the manager and coach?”
Prosecutors also seized and searched the office and home of Mr. Lee and Bae on the 18th after additionally capturing the circumstances in which Choi handed tens of millions of won to Ansan FC representative Mr. Lee and scout manager Mr. Bae to sign two players. The prosecution is expanding the scope of the investigation, considering that there are more former and current club officials and leaders who were directly involved in scouting players with or alone in the Ansan club other than Mr. Lee and Mr. Bae. Prosecutors are conducting an investigation, believing that there may be a possibility that a famous former representative player or a famous professional club leader may have been involved in the numerous back-money transactions that occurred in the process of recruiting players from the Ansan soccer team.
